Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). SAAM is a time to focus national attention on the realities of sexual violence and to promote safe, respectful relationships. In Hawai'i, The Sex Abuse Treatment Center joins with other groups and organizations in April to create awareness and to motivate residents to take action to create a safe, sexual violence free Hawai'i.

Free public performance of "Expect [ r e s p e c t ]™" a theatrical piece delivered by young adult actors with T-shirt Theatre and Honolulu Theatre for Youth. 13TH Annual Keiki Spring Fest

This is a community awareness event focuses on the Waianae Coast community residents and those serving the Coast, targeting families and children ages 0-5 years old. Over 50 service providers will be tabling and providing interactive games for children, giveaways, and information for families.

Hawai‘i Pacific University "It Starts With Us" Fair

During this event, HPU will hold the annual "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" walk. The walk begins at Aloha Tower Market place and ends at Fort Street Mall. After the walk, there will be awareness and prevention education provided on sexual violence. SATC will be providing informational brochures, [ r e s p e c t ]™ swag, and interactive games to participants.

Honolulu Mayor Sex Assault Awareness Month Proclamation and City Council Certificate Presentation

Six honorees nominated by the Department of Health's Community Action Teams will be recognized in both the Mayor's proclamation and the Council's certificates. This is the largest proclamation/certificate event of the year. Entertainment by the Royal Hawaiian Trio and cookies and punch following the event.

University of Hawai‘i [ r e s p e c t ]™ Week:

University of Hawaii Manoa, "[ r e s p e c t ]™ Walk"

SATC partnered with the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa PAU Violence team to host a "[ r e s p e c t ]™ Walk" which will invite campus members to walk around the UH Manoa campus to celebrate the [ r e s p e c t ]™ campaign, and demonstrate awareness about building safe and respectful environments and relationships. The walk begins and ends at the UH Manoa Campus Center Courtyard (walk will circle the UH Manoa Upper Campus). This walk will also be an introduction to the UH system-wide "Respect Week," in which campuses will host events that focus on the [ r e s p e c t ]™ campaign. 1st 100 participants to sign up will receive either a [ r e s p e c t ]™ hat or t-shirt. After the walk there will be food given to participants and sexual violence prevention awareness and education resources will be handed out.
